Waltz lessons at Minot State

MINOT, N.D. – Learn how to waltz, brush up on your waltz skills, or learn new waltz steps while helping students at Minot State achieve a goal for growth.

The free will donation waltz dance lessons are open to the public and will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 6:45 p.m. on the second floor of Swain Hall in the pedagogy lab/gym. If you are unable to participate on Jan. 21, come 15 minutes early on Jan 28 to get started as the second lesson builds on the first.

Eighteen Minot State elementary and physical education students are hosting the fundraiser for their study abroad trip to Morocco and Spain in April 2020, where they will teach in Tangier, Morocco and visit American schools in Spain and Morocco. The students will assist Minot State alumni Jacob Thrailkill and MSU Teacher Education and Kinesiology Chair Terry Eckmann during the waltz lessons.

“Jacob is a community partner who is passionate about teaching dance and wants to help our students in this endeavor,” Eckmann said.

The study abroad experience will provide students with a unique, hands-on learning experience about how to teach in American schools around the world.

Eckmann has led several international opportunities for Minot State students, including attendance at the 2018 Asia Fitness Conference in Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.

“International study abroad programs can open doors of opportunity while providing students with rich experiences to learn about other cultures and communities around the world,” Eckmann said. “These are experiences that enrich lives and build memories that last forever. The friendships that are formed often last a lifetime.”
