Minot State’s Lifelong Learning Institute offers four fall workshops

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University’s Center for Extended Learning (CEL) is offering four workshops through the Lifelong Learning Institute.

The MSU Lifelong Learning Institute will feature classes from multiple departments throughout Minot State’s curriculum. The four classes offered are: Pickleball 101, Intermediate Pickleball, Capturing Your Own Holiday Photos, and Photographic Editing: Lightroom/Photoshop/Plug-ins.

“The purpose of the Lifelong Learning Institute is to provide programming for everyone as learning never stops,” said Amy Woodbeck, CEL professional and community education coordinator. “It’s exciting to announce these four classes for the fall. We continue to look for ideas and topics to offer new fun and educational workshops in the future.”

Pickleball 101

  • Instructor: Kevin Yale, instructor
  • Date: Oct. 17, 24, 31 and Nov. 7, 14
  • Time: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • Location: Wellness Center
  • Cost: $50
  • Ages: 18+
  • Description: Experience for yourself why pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States.

Intermediate Pickleball

  • Instructor: Kevin Yale, instructor
  • Date: Oct. 19, 26 and Nov. 2, 9, 16
  • Time: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • Location: Wellness Center
  • Cost: $50
  • Ages: 18+
  • Description: For experienced players who want to hone their skills.

Capturing Your Own Holiday Photos

  • Instructor: Aaron Hughes and Ashley Duchsherer, Hint of Whimsy Photography
  • Date: Oct. 25
  • Time: 6-7:30 p.m.
  • Location: Old Main 104
  • Cost: $20
  • Ages: All ages
  • Description: Learn to take high-quality professional photos of your own family for holiday greeting cards by mastering posing, lighting, and editing on your smartphone.

Photographic Editing: Lightroom/Photoshop/Plug-ins

  • Instructor: Paul Cerbone, instructor
  • Date: Nov. 7 and 9
  • Time: 5-7 p.m.
  • Location: Swain Hall 118
  • Cost: $35
  • Ages: 13+
  • Description: This course will cover the basics of editing a photo (contrast, clarity, vibrancy, vignettes, cropping and image sizing, etc.). We will cover how to use Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, and various third-party plug-ins for editing. The course will break down selecting and masking certain portions of a photo, filters, composites, HDR’s (combining multiple photos), as well as digitally retouching photo and printing. A laptop with photo editing software is highly encouraged but not required.
