Performing Arts welcomes all for Ukulele Jam

MINOT, N.D. – There’s no better instrument better for a quick and easy music-making session than the ukulele. Come practice your skills or learn to play for the first time at the Division of Performing Arts Ukulele Jam on March 1.

Assistant Professor of Music Education Kateri Miller has championed the ukulele on campus since she arrived at Minot State in Fall 2020 and uses it regularly in her classroom.

“I adore the ukulele,” she said. “I think it is a fun, easy, and affordable way to learn an instrument. My nonmusic education majors all play it and feel instant success. In addition to the elective course I offer, these ukulele jams help me to keep spreading the love."

The jam will take place on Tuesday, March 1, from 7-8 p.m. in Old Main Room 121, the large rehearsal space in the lowest level of the building. It is free and open to the public and will include pop tunes that use three or four easy chords. No experience is necessary.

“I will walk participants through it all,” said Miller. “Even if you only play one of the chords, you will feel successful. You don't have to read music.”

Ukuleles are available on a first come, first serve basis. EMAIL Miller or call her at 701-858-3837 for more information.
