When you enroll in our music program, you will be immersed in comprehensive and personalized curriculum in one of five areas: band, keyboard, strings, voice, or brass, wind, and percussion. As a Bachelor of Arts in Music major, you will hone your skills as you participate in large and small ensembles, private lessons, and master classes and perform in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall, our premier performance facility.
The value of music in a student’s education cannot be understated. While pursuing your Bachelor of Science in Music Education, you will develop the necessary practical and pedagogical skills pertaining to your chosen emphasis in choral, band, orchestral, or elementary to bring theory and skills to life through the sound of music. Minot State has an excellent history of placing teachers around the region, with many of our music education majors earning job offers before graduation.
Once candidates complete a teacher preparation degree program from an accredited institution, pass the necessary background checks, and complete the Praxis I (during teaching training) and Praxis II (prior to earning a license) Examinations, teacher candidates are awarded one of the following In-State Licenses (Two-Year):
- K-12 Music: Composite (License Code: #12010)
- K-12 Music: Instrumental (License Code: #12005)
- K-12 Music: Vocal (License Code: #12015)
Our non-teaching music minor has been designed to enhance your education at Minot State, allowing you the opportunity to continue developing your musical skills while pursuing the major of your choice. Be heard as you perform with your fellow students and Minot State faculty members, regional musicians, and international guest artists in large and small ensembles.
Our theatre program offers you several ways to pursue your passion, whether it’s in the spotlight or behind the scenes. In order to prepare you for success, we aim to produce well-rounded theatre graduates able to work in any aspect of the theatre world. The skills you learn will be invaluable, no matter where your career path takes you.
Round out your education at Minot State with our concentrations in music, dance and creative movement, and theatre. Whether you are interested in expanding your skills in music theory, your instrument of choice, acting, movement, or playwriting, our options are sure to fit your needs.
